Illustration of a ball featuring farm animals rolling along a path on a cheerful morning.

That morning, the farm woke up slowly.

The sun appeared from behind the red barn roof and painted the grass with soft light.

Inês opened the house door, her feet still a little sleepy.

Under her arm, she carried her rubber farm animal ball. It was round, cheerful, and fit perfectly in her small hands. It had animal drawings that seemed to say:

- Shall we play?

Inês smiled.

- Good morning, ball.

She gave it a very light push.

The ball rolled down the dirt path. Plink, plink, plink, it went on the small pebbles.

First, it passed by Amélia the hen, who was pecking near the fence.

- Cluck-cluck-cluck! - said the hen. - Where are you going, so round?

The ball didn't answer, because balls speak by rolling. It rolled once to the left, once to the right, and stopped right next to the hen.

Inês clapped her hands.

- She came to say good morning to you!

Amélia the hen took three steps around the ball.

- Then I want to play too.

Inês pushed the ball again, this time more slowly, so the hen could keep up.

The ball continued to the small puddle, where the sky was upside down. There was Tobias the duck, wetting a little paw.

- Quack? What's coming?

The ball touched the edge of the puddle and made a little jump.

Plop!

It didn't fall into the water. It swayed, very pleased.

- It's a good morning ball - Inês explained. - It's visiting the farm.

Tobias the duck flapped his feathers.

- Then it still needs to visit Mimi the goat.

Mimi the goat was on a low rock, looking at a very high leaf.

- Baaa... I can't reach it.

Inês looked at the leaf. She looked at the ball. Then she had a simple idea, one of those that fit into a smile.

- Let's make a path.

She sat on the ground and rolled the ball to the rock. The goat came down, went around, climbed up again, and forgot about the leaf.

- After all, playing also feeds joy - said Mimi.

Inês laughed so hard she almost fell onto the grass.

The ball continued to roll.

It passed by the yellow flowers.

It passed next to the blue bucket.

It passed by a butterfly that was only a little startled and then came back for a better look.

At the end of the path was Cloud the sheep, very quiet.

- Good morning, Cloud! - Inês called out.

The sheep raised her head.

- Good morning. I was listening to the farm.

- And what does the farm say?

The sheep thought.

- It says cluck-cluck, quack-quack, baaa... and today it also says plink-plink-plink.

Inês understood immediately.

- It's my ball!

Then she had another idea.

She called everyone into a circle: Amélia the hen, Tobias the duck, Mimi the goat, and Cloud the sheep.

Inês stood in the middle with the ball.

- Now, the ball will say good morning to everyone.

She rolled the ball to the hen.

- Cluck-cluck, good morning!

She rolled the ball to the duck.

- Quack-quack, good morning!

She rolled the ball to the goat.

- Baaa, good morning!

She rolled the ball to the sheep.

- Baaa, good morning!

Then the ball returned to Inês, as if it knew its way home.

The girl hugged it to her tummy.

- Now you've said good morning to everyone.

But the ball slipped a little from her hands and stopped at Inês's feet.

Round. Silent. Full of sun.

Inês tilted her head.

- Is anyone still missing?

The hen looked at the duck. The duck looked at the goat. The goat looked at the sheep.

Cloud the sheep smiled with her eyes.

- You are.

Inês opened her arms wide.

Then everyone gently pushed the ball towards her.

Plink, plink, plink.

The ball reached Inês's feet and touched the tip of her shoe.

- Good morning, Inês - everyone said.

The girl giggled quietly.

Then she sat on the grass, with the ball on her lap and her friends around her.

The morning had only just begun.

And, on the farm, any path could turn into a round game.
