Rubber Figure - Leatherback Turtle

As the largest species of sea turtle, it can reach up to 2 metres in length, weighing over 500kg. The shell is covered by thick, tough skin with a leathery appearance, featuring 5 dorsal keels or ridges (7 if considering those on each side). The colouring is dark bluish-black on the back and lighter on the underside, marked with irregular pale spots, more abundant on the ventral side. These are solitary animals that approach the coast for feeding and breeding. Their diet is varied, including algae, jellyfish, echinoderms, molluscs, fish, and crustaceans. Although found in our waters, it does not breed on the Portuguese coast. Its distribution is extensive, covering all oceans, from cold, temperate, subtropical to tropical waters. It is the second most commonly stranded sea turtle species in Portugal.
