This Brown Bear

This hand-painted Grizzly Bear XL PVC Figure measures 9 inches long from the tip of his snout to the heel of his left foot. It is 12 centimeters tall to the top of its hump. Its coloration reflects the variable shades of brown found in this subspecies, with a golden brown face and a darker brown hue on the body. Its nose and lips are black and its claws are light brown.

The grizzly bear is a large type of brown bear found in the extreme northwestern regions of the North American continent, especially in Canada and Alaska. Although not as large as the polar bear, these bears can grow quite large. Its sharp claws can be up to ten centimeters long.

Explorers Lewis and Clark first described this creature as “grisley,” although exactly what they meant is not 100% clear. They probably referred to the bear's “grizzled” appearance, with lighter colored tips on the fur. Grizzly bears can be distinguished from the smaller black bear species in a few ways - the grizzly bear has a prominent shoulder hump, a less narrow face, and its rump is lower than its shoulders.

Although they belong to the order Carnivora, grizzly bears eat animals and plant matter. They eat fruit and insects, but also attack deer, elk and other large animals. Fish, especially salmon, makes up a large part of the diet of Grizzlies in Alaska and Canada, and this high-protein diet causes these bears to grow much larger than other Grizzlies.
