123 Little Train

With this cute train, children can discover the numbers from one to five. We arrange the train cards in a profile on a bright, quiet playing surface free of other distractions and invite the child to put together the train puzzle. Thanks to the self-correcting joints, the child can have fun putting the train together completely independently.
We give her all the time she needs to freely handle the material while observing the colors and shapes and we only intervene if we see her having difficulty, with some small suggestions.

LEARN TO COUNT
Once the train is assembled, we invite the child to position each passenger in their carriage. While inserting the cards into the corresponding windows, we count out loud and, pointing to the children on the train, say: “Look, in the first carriage there is a child”, then pointing to the second carriage: “And here are two children”, and so on up to five. We can also point out to the child that when there are many people, the carriage is longer. For example, the last carriage is made up of five pieces, because it has to be bigger to be able to carry five children. As we explain, we can count: “Look, here there is one, two, three, four and... five children”. By repeating the count several times, also with the other carriages, the child will intuitively understand that the last number in the count is also the one that describes the quantity
ity of the entire set.

For older children, who are already familiar with numbers, we also refer to the graphic signs that represent the numbers from one to five, indicated on each carriage.
